THE TREATMENT DIFFERENCE

Luckily, skin cancers are visible and hence can be detected early by monitoring the skin for any changes in size, shape, color, and border. There are also subtypes of unique skin cancers:

• More common non-melanoma skin cancers are usually caused by excessive sun exposure, including basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma.
• The most common is basal cell carcinoma which is least likely to metastasize, (but can grow into deeper tissue if left untreated).
• The second most common type, squamous cell carcinoma, is rarer, and around 30% metastasize.
• The least common is melanoma, which will metastasize if left untreated and can even be fatal. Early treatment can prevent it from spreading to the lymph nodes.
